Product Information

GCE Advanced (A) Level is one of the most recognised and prestigious qualifications around the world. It has been accepted as proof of academic ability for entry to universities and institutes of higher education for over 50 years. A Levels are also important to employers who frequently demand them as a condition of employment.

Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level represents the first half of a full A Level course and offers a great way for students to study a broader range of subjects without committing to doing a full A Level.

  • Cambridge A and AS Levels are 'gold standard' qualifications
  • International A and AS Levels incorporate the best of UK A Levels, but are designed to meet the needs of international students
  • AS Level examinations are usually taken at age 17 and A Level examinations a year later at age 18
  • International A and AS Levels offer a flexible course of study that gives you the freedom to select the subjects that are right for you
  • Assessment is available in a wide range of subject areas – Languages, Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, English, Mathematics and Business, Creative, Technical and Vocational
  • A and AS Level courses differ for each subject, but throughout there is a mix of assessment methods, which may include coursework, practical exercises, oral and listening tests, projects and written examinations
  • Good grades at A and AS Level are a key admission for all the world's major English-speaking universities and many non-English-speaking universities
  • Good grades at A Level can result in up to one full year of advanced standing or credit at universities in the USA and Canada – AS Levels carry half the weighting of an A Level and are typically awarded half the credit value
  • International A and AS Levels are continually monitored, developed and improved to give students the best in study and assessment

The Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE)

The AICE diploma is a group award qualification designed to provide a broad post-16 curriculum. It demands knowledge of a variety of subjects from three different groups:

·          Group A: Mathematics and Sciences

·          Group B: Languages

·          Group C. Arts and Humanities

The AICE Diploma also allows certified individual research and independent skills, in the form of research projects, to contribute towards the final qualification.

The AICE Diploma draws on CIE’s full A and AS Level syllabus provision, plus two half-credit AICE courses – English and Mathematics: Statistics.

Students who meet the requirements of the group award will receive an AICE Diploma at one of the three levels: Pass, Merit or Distinction. Candidates who do not achieve the grades required by AICE are awarded A or AS Level certificates which are records of the grades achieved in the individual subjects they have taken. For more information on AICE please request a factsheet from the school.
